A favourite vantage point with panoramic views at White Nancy in Kerridge

No matter the weather, come rain or shine, even on a harsh winters’ day, we have a favourite place we like to take in. It’s an off the radar kind of a place, yet can be seen for miles around. Not many realise you can walk right up to it, and all that try groan at the upwards climb. They soon marvel though when they reach the top, gasping at the panoramic views and declaring it was well worth the effort.

Situated in Kerridge, White Nancy overlooks the village and surrounding area. If you look north you can see Manchester, and beyond that the Pennines and many other local landmarks like Jodrell Bank and The Edge. It’s like playing a game of ‘eye spy’.

We’ve sat and read books, and watched buzzards circle and call. We’ve seen the sun rise from the top on a snowy morning, the sun set on a summer’s evening and more recently, we saw the eclipse.

We normally park in Kerridge and locate the path on a road called the Redway, though many walks can be located online or locally. All either start, end up or just pass White Nancy. Either way, amazing views are guaranteed, even on the dullest of days.

From 19 – 21 June 2015, various events will be held locally to celebrate White Nancy and its history.
